2018 FIFA World Cup Outreach Wrap-up
Hello praying friends,
Thank you for your prayers regarding the booklets that were held up in customs in Moscow.
We always knew ministry in Russia would be tricky. They have anti-evangelism laws in that country. Our booklets were not released by customs because they were not for use by Russian Orthodox Church. We are sad that this was the result, but God is still sovereign.
We carried just over ⅓ in with us, so we had some on hand. Now pray with us that the government there will return the boxes to sender so we can use them next time, since the booklets have been designed to use in any soccer event. The man at the counter said they would return them eventually.
So now our prayer is that the customs office will in fact ship them back to the return addresses. Also, one box is unaccounted for. We trust that these booklets will get into the hands of those who need to hear the good news of the gospel!!
We believe we distributed over 3500 booklets and DVDs in 6 different languages. Once again, we had people asking for them, and very few reject them. Almost none were found discarded.
Matt was in country for 18 days. The total team size fluctuated between four and six. During our stay there we were able to reach out to people from 68 different countries. Since we are trying something different for connecting with people who accept Christ (like QR codes, web-links and email, instead of a tear-out card), please continue to pray that we will hear from those who trust Christ or have questions. We want to be sure we follow up any fruit.
We were able to strengthen some local believers.
We were able to resource a couple of Korean churches in Moscow with booklets.
We were able to bring glory to God before many.
There were only a couple minor incidents where booklets were seized by government officials.
Thanks so much for your prayers. Matt is now back in the States, ready to continue furlough ministry.
In His service,
Matt & Barb Douglas
